Make kindness the norm! Join with Van Buren County Schools this week, February 13-17, in celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Week. RAK week is a celebration of all the ways we can become a positive influence in each other’s lives. The world can be selfish and cruel sometimes and not everyone receives the same kind of support they need. In such a world, it is important for us to constantly be reminded to be kind to one another and to give others hope whenever we can. A small and random gesture of kindness can go a long way at home, at school, in the community, and even in the world because kindness truly is contagious!

January is National Staying Healthy Month so it's a great time to highlight the 85210 Healthy Habits. The fourth habit is 1 hour or more of physical activity. Get Ready, Set, Play! The options are endless when it comes to physical activity! Just come up with some things that your family likes to do together and get moving! For even greater benefits, try exercising outdoors! Some recent studies have found people report a higher level of vitality, enthusiasm, pleasure and self-esteem, and a lower level of tension, depression and fatigue, after they have walked outside. People who exercise outside also say they are more likely to exercise again than those who stay indoors. And, people who exercise outside do it more often, and for longer, than those who work out indoors.
January is National Staying Healthy Month so it's a great time to highlight the 85210 Healthy Habits. The third habit is 2 hours or less of screen time. While a lot of our school learning and work requires children, teens, and adults to be on computers, we can decrease the amount of free time that we spend in front of a screen. Limiting screen time can have the following health benefits: lower stress levels, improved sleep habits, better focus and brain function, increased physical activity, improved posture, and reduced eye strain.
Reminder - Van Buren County Schools will be CLOSED tomorrow, Monday, January 16th in observance of MLK Jr. day. Enjoy the long weekend and stay safe!
