This is a FREE preventive dental service designed to help protect your child’s teeth and promote long-term oral health.
✅ Every student will receive a dental sealant form.
📝 Parents must complete and return the consent form in order for their child to participate.
We only have this program every 3 to 5 years so don’t miss out on this great opportunity to keep those smiles healthy and strong! 😁

Thriving Thursday: From VBHS to Alaska’s Icy Waters — Delaney Sullivan is Proving “Adventure Is Out There!”
Meet Delaney Sullivan, a proud 2016 graduate of Van Buren County High School who’s proving that “Adventure is out there!” — just like she painted on her senior parking spot.
After earning her Associate’s Degree in Biology from Motlow State, Delaney transferred to Tennessee Tech, where she majored in Biology with an emphasis in Marine Biology. Her studies took her all the way to Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to complete her marine coursework, and she graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in 2022.
Her journey didn’t stop there! In 2023, Delaney worked as a seasonal Observer for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. She returned to Alaska in the winter of 2025 for another seasonal role with Prince William Sound Aquaculture Corporation at the Main Bay Hatchery near Whittier.
And now? As of July 2025, Delaney has accepted a full-time position as a Fish Culturalist with Southern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association at Neet’s Bay Hatchery near Ketchikan, Alaska.
From the halls of VBHS to the icy waters of Alaska, Delaney is living proof that hard work and a spirit of adventure can take you anywhere. 💙🐟

Today, we’re taking it back to Summer 2017 when our students embarked on an unforgettable trip to our nation’s capital! From standing in awe at the Lincoln Memorial to exploring the rich history in the Smithsonian Museums, this trip was full of learning, laughter, and lifelong memories.
Students visited iconic landmarks like the U.S. Capitol, the White House, Arlington National Cemetery, and more. It was a powerful educational experience that brought history to life and helped our students see their classroom lessons in action.

🎒 Feature Friday: Benson’s B.A.M. – Backpacks & More for Our Community! 🙌
This week we’re highlighting the powerful impact of Benson’s Backpack Assistance Ministry (B.A.M.)—an incredible community outreach effort helping families get ready for back to school!
On Friday, July 25th, students from SLT4, Coordinated School Health (CSH) staff, and other dedicated volunteers came together at the YMCA Basketball Gym to pack backpacks full of school essentials. 💼📚
Then, on Saturday, July 26th at 9 AM, families from White and Van Buren Counties participated in the Drive-Thru Event at White County High School. Our amazing VBCS staff helped distribute:
✅ Free backpacks
✅ School supplies
✅ Hygiene items
✅ Books and more
👏 Thank you to all the volunteers, donors, and the Sparta YMCA for supporting our students and helping make this event a success. It’s community teamwork like this that helps every child start the year prepared and confident! 💙

Each Thursday, we’re shining a spotlight on alumni who are doing amazing things in their careers, communities, and beyond!
💬 This week’s feature: Richard Mayes, Class of 1996– Dr. Richard Mayes, a 1996 graduate of Van Buren County High School, was recently elected as a Fellow of the American Chemical Society—one of the highest honors in the field. After graduation from Van Buren County High School, he earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Tennessee Technological University, followed by a Doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Tennessee. Mayes currently serves at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he has made significant contributions to the field of chemistry through his research and leadership.
