
Shout Out to Our Amazing School Board! The Van Buren County School System is blessed to have dedicated school board members who work tirelessly to ensure a quality education for all students. Each of our members are pillars of the community who have dedicated their lives to enriching not only our education system, but also the community that surrounds them. Your commitment and passion does not go unnoticed, and at this time, we would like to thank each of you for what you do. The Van Buren County School Board is made up of the following members: Benjamin Grissom (District 1), Tim Hodges, Chairman (District 2), Barry Austin (District 3), Davy Shockley (District 4), and Glenece Cole (District 5). Official Message from Jared Copeland: This is a different call from what you’ve been used to these last few weeks. It is unusual, but the weather has cooperated and allowed most of the snow and ice to melt from our roads today. Our state, county, and city road crews have done a tremendous job in getting our roadways to a condition to safely travel again. Schools will be back in session at regular time tomorrow, We’d., Jan. 24th. Please still use caution as you travel in the morning. Bus drivers will use discretion.Please also know that we have more rounds of potential inclement weather ahead of us. We will monitor these conditions as well. Students, we look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

At the December Van Buren County Board of Education meeting, board members honored retiring Director of Schools, Cheryl Cope. The board presented Mrs. Cope with a Clock with Engraved Plaque for years of service and dedication to the Van Buren County School System. On December 19th, the retiring members, Mrs. Cheryl Cope, Mr. Terry Hickey, and Mrs. Virginia Baker, of Van Buren County Schools were celebrated with lunch and cake. A special thank you to Scott Grooter, American Fidelity, for sponsoring the luncheon. We are grateful for their dedication and contributions to our school community and wish them well in retirement.



The Van Buren County School System would like to wish a Happy Retirement to Mrs. Cheryl Cope, Director of Schools, Mrs. Virginia Baker, Director of Special Education, and Mr. Terry Hickey, Transportation Maintenance. Mrs. Cheryl Cope retires on December 29, 2023 with 32 years of service. Mrs. Virginia Baker retires on January 10, 2024 with 33 years of service. Mr. Terry Hickey retires on January 2, 2024 with 12 years of service. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to the Van Buren County School System! We wish you well in you future endeavors and hope that you enjoy your retirement!

This is a friendly reminder that tomorrow, December 19th is an abbreviated school day for all Van Buren County Students with an early dismissal at 9 a.m. School buses will NOT be running tomorrow. All schools and offices will be closed December 20th-January 2nd for Christmas Break. We hope that each of you have a wonderful holiday break and we will see back at school on January 3, 2024.
