This month we would like to spotlight: Mrs. Dannon Stickler, she has a Bachelor's of Science in Sociology with an emphasis in Criminal Justice through Tennessee Technological University and some master's level courses in Criminal Justice through Middle Tennessee State University. She is employed through the State of Tennessee as a Probation/Parole Officer 3. In preparation for her role as a Probation/Parole Officer she was required to attend a 6-week Probation/Parole Academy at the Tennessee Corrections Academy in Tullahoma where she had to pass a firearms course, a defensive tactics course, become CPR/First Aid certified, and learn policy/procedures. All of these things have to be renewed each year as professional development for her position as PPO3.

***HAVE YOU HEARD?*** Van Buren County Middle and High School has been named as a "TENNESSEE REWARD SCHOOL" by the Tennessee Department of Education. This is the TOP distinction that a Tennessee school can be given based on a set of criteria set forth by the Department of Education. According to the TDOE's website, schools serving K-8 students are evaluated on four indicators, including achievement on the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) assessments, TCAP assessment growth over time, rates at which students are Chronically Out of School, and performance on the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA). High schools, in addition to these four indicators, are also evaluated on Graduation Rate and Ready Graduate Rate, or the rate at which students graduate while also having achieved milestones associated with college and career readiness. CONGRATULATIONS to VBHS faculty, staff, and students on achieving this designation for the FIRST TIME in Van Buren County Schools history!

Good Afternoon! This contains several different important messages so please read it in its entirety. Middle School supply lists have been uploaded to the school website at https://www.vanburenschools.org/o/vbhs. High School teachers will communicate needed supplies to students on their first day of classes. As you begin shopping for back to school clothes please be mindful of the dress code policy in place in the student handbook. Shorts/skirts and holes in jeans/pants CANNOT be more than 3 inches above the knee. Shirts must cover the midriff area completely. If leggings are worn they must be accompanied by a shirt/dress that appropriately covers all areas. Students found in violation of the dress code can be asked to change and/or a parent can be contacted. If you have any questions, please contact the High School office at 931-946-2442. We are looking forward to a great school year!
